Witch/Wizard Flow Problem Test

u/Bigandshiny

I have been super busy lately .. so sorry in advance for only a partial conclusion. If there isn't an official comment from devs/GMs, more testing will be done, and I go over what will be tested later on. I figured I'd post what I have now though, and we will wait and see. Me will be back streaming on June 5th or something like that, so can talk more then .. but hopefully this will be resolved by then.

Bolide damage remained the exact same after as before patch, so no global damage nerf. Average/min/max damage were the same pre and post patch. On sheet, the damage applied of the Cataclysm flow should add an average of 75% to the damage of the Cataclysm skill at max rank, assuming both have equal damage reduced in PVP. Damage reduced in PVP is not stated on the flow, but we do not know for sure what properties it shares (other than accuracy) with the normal skill. Tests done about a year ago show that the damage applied was not reduced in PVP, but a lot has changed since then. Anyways .. this means that with yes damage reduced in pvp, the flow should add damage equal to ~75% the damage of the original skill.

Vs softcap with Urugon shoes, 273 AP cataclysm averaged 823 damage without flow, and 1250 with. The flow added 52% damage only, when it should be adding ~75%. Now .. it starts to get weird. This next test was designed to test against low evasion target to remove accuracy from the equation, to see if flows were not hitting due to a glitch or due to removal of accuracy, but it turns out they did something really bizarre.

The opponent took off 76 DR (including renown), and the flow added 82% damage to the skill. This means the flow was now doing higher damage than it should. The lower the DR of the opponent, the flow damage counted for a higher and higer percent of the total skill damage. With 160 DR below softcap Vs my 168 and my 209 AP, the flow added 149 and 151% damage over the normal skill. Damage reduced in PVP is typically around 50%, so these 149-151% numbers check out assuming the flow is meant to apply raw damage. To give an idea of how major the difference is, the flow does nearly four times the damage vs the low geared opponent as it does vs the high geared opponent.

What is happening, and why is it happening? Plugging the numbers into a DR/AP formula I came up with a while ago, and assuming the flow still applies raw damage, it seems around 'effective' AP is being applied to the flow is around 200 lower than what should be applied to it. For the 130 DR opponent to take four times the damage of the 130 DR opponent, as opposed to a difference of 50% damage from the skill itself (which is the expected change in damage given the amount of DR the opponent changed) Something is clearly very wrong with the flow damage.

We know they were tweaking pet stats over the last couple patches, so my best guess is that this was an unintended consequence of this happening. It could be that the pet is not having any of the renown damage applied to it, or the pet is only taking a certain percentage of my AP. I'll eventually get around to testing these things unless an official comment is made, but I have been very busy lately. Sorry again that this is only a partial conclusion :)

Don't worry fellow Witchzards .. since no comment was made in patch notes, and this is obviously very bizarre .. this is most likely a glitch. To further calm worries, remember that the 'correct' amount of damage from the flow was applied Vs a 'low' DR opponent. Let's hope this guess is right :)

Side note .. didn't comment on accuracy just because I haven't formally tested it. Testing flow accuracy is actually pretty miserable to do LOL. EDIT: I did test it enough though to know that the accuracy is no longer the same as the skill accuracy itself though. Regardless of whether or not accuracy was changed/removed, the results here are still valid. The lower DR tests were originally supposed to be low-0 evasion tests to test if accuracy was removed, but I stumbled upon this other issue by mistake while doing those.
