“Things You Should Know Before Starting Ranked in Season 8!!!!!”

Let the Climb Begin!!

Hey What’s up guys. I’m in a Master tier in KR server. I teach LOL to amateurs to help them build strategies based on their capabilities. Well… S8 has already begun and it seems like people are doing their own best to climb up the ladder. And I also see those that blame on teammates for feeding or afk or troll and such…But whatever you say, you are not going to quit playing LOL so just do your own thing and try to do well in your own fucking lane. STOP BLAMING~ IT’S YOU MOST OF THE TIME!!!

Climbing up the ladder is all on you, not your teammates. How desperate are you to climb up? Do you spend enough time? How much influence did you make for the outcome of the game? Have you objectively analyzed your game before? Do you work on your mechanics? Don’t run around thinking that you lost because of your teammates. The outcome of the game is directly dependent on you. You have to increase your influence on the game more than what everyone is expected to contribute in a game. MMR isn’t about win or loss. It’s really about how much contribution you make.

Thus, the kind of advice I give my students and to you guys today is not something totally new, but rather a common thing: Work on your mechanics. Calling, warding, macro games, items, and such are not the priorities to winning. This is nothing unless you have actual skills to back it up. Even pros in Korea take advices from their coach to have better mechanics and decision makings. There is always a room for you to get better.

One more thing! Usually, your deaths, most of the time, is obvious. Spend time watching replays. Don’t waste your time yelling at your teammates about why he didn’t come for your lane to help or such. Most of the deaths are due to mechanical error and bad map readings. If you had simply been paying attention and being on top of your game, you would have not died.

Anyway.. back to the tips. Sorry if some of the translations don’t make sense. There are words that don’t exist in English. So, I did little bit of a liberal translation and paraphrasing also.

No matter how many times you lose, you will not going to quit playing this game. Instead, you will feel katharsis when you finally win after consecutive losses. And without a doubt, that katharsis will make you to play another game.

The problem is that we all play games to relieve stress... right? Unfortunately, many people gain stress from losing so much that they feel like chocking themselves or thinking that it’s all because of the team.

So, here I brought some tips to help you WIN!!! And not to kill yourself from the stress.

I tried to simplify them to help you understand, so you can read them over and make application to your own games. If you have any questions, please feel free to comment. I will reply as soon as possible.

I recommend you reading them carefully. I know this is a long reddit but the stress of reading this is far less than a loss. And another loss. And ending up in BROZNE!!!!!

Just imagine the KATHARSIS of climbing up the rank using my tips.

~~~~~~~~~~Gazuaaaaaa~~~~~~~~~~
  1. Target
    It will be much more practical to those below Diamond or I guess up to D3 I suppose.
  2. Key Point: To reduce team reliance, but at the sametime to use them well! This may sound complicated, but it’s the best description I can possibly give you and here is why:
    For example, let’s say your Midlane isn’t looking too great. But, you think you can manage to sustain for now and pull off some good plays later. From here, you can make two choices. You can either:
  1. Tell your Jungler to go gankother lanes (if you think you can hold your lane)
    or
  2. Tell your Jungler to keep jumpingon mid cause’ u can bait the fuck out of this
Other strategy tips may tell you that ‘a’ is the best choice when your priority is to lower team reliance. But!! Choosing ‘a’ is kind of risky because: First, it is uncertain to whether other lanes can respond well to the gank. Second, even if other lanes do get kills from the gank, ‘Can they snowball?’Uncertain!! And last, your teammates may not be too good at Team Fight (TF).
So, what I’m trying to say is that trust in yourself and do not rely on your teammates. Call for gank and get the kill so that you and your JGL can both grow. Overall, ‘b’ is a better choice if you can pull off a good TF or a good macro game. Yes, calling JGL can be perceived as ‘team reliance’, but I’m not saying play the game in either ‘black and white’ kind of thing. It’s all situational. There are times you need to take the chance or not. Be wise about it.
In the end, you need to learn and apply this kind of strategic elements in the game so that you are less depended on the teamluck. Carefully read the tips below and hope you can apply them to your own game.
1.    When LANING isn’t easy (forTop/Mid/AD/Sup)
  1. PULL your lane! Don’t be stupid to think that you can get a lucky kill. Save your HP and focus on keeping the distance and avoiding skill shots
  2. ONLY trade shots when our JGL is near
  3. RATIONALLY PERSUADE JGL to come gank via providing enemy HP, lane status, and your strong will to respond
  4. Immediately RESPOND to gank when JGL is near
  5. REPEAT 1~4 until you can sustain your lane. Be sure to get kills and have enemy waste their spells
  • Caution: For those mid-low rankers, if you are afraid of getting counter-ganked and skip the steps above, you will never be able to make anything out of it even in the future games. So, do it as it’s stated. Another thing, don’t try to pull off a Hollywood acting to lure enemy. Your level isn’t ready for that. Just carry out those steps and get good ganks. Make sure yourJGL doesn’t camp too much because your will never push the lane.
  • When your JGL is DUMB, the only hidden weapon you have is ‘luck’
    It is absolutely stupid to think about winning after getting stomped in a lane
If you don’t like this kind of situation, learn to avoid skill shots and get better to sustain your lane to win (Tips below)
2.    Absolutely Nowhere to Gank (Otherlaners can also use the tips for roaming)
Jungler
When the laners don’t respond or if they just die during the gank/roam, then just tell yourself that the game is ‘over’. If this is not the case, there is a high chance that your JGL can’t see the kill chance. So, look below for tips:
  1. If Absolute kill chance is found: Just fucking gank
  2. Timing Gank
    Doesn’t matter which lane, try to see both our team and the enemy’s HP and their moving pattern.
    For example, what makes both Leblanc and Zed hard to gank is because of their runaway skills. On top of that, when they have full HP? ‘Ain’t feel like going’ -JGL BUT! What if they both have half the HP? I can guarantee that one of the two is going to go crazy and use every spell possible for a kill. As soon as they engage, then JGL must jump in to get a kill and save our team. This is a ‘Timing Gank’
    In the past, Evelynn had higher win-ratio in upper elo of the league, but so much in the bottom, because having no CC at pre lvl 6 made them just farm the entire time. In the other hand, people inhigher elo used stealth advantage with timing gank to get repeated kills which later made Eve the most banned champs in KR server.
  3. Dive Gank
    This happens a lot. When your teammate is aggressively pushing lane, take a peak and see if you have any chance to get a kill. It’s even better if you push the tower as well.
    But the scary thing is getting counter-ganked by their JGL. So, I usually recommend every JGL to get Tracker’s Knife. Warding enemy’s ganking path will allow you to track their JGL, and this will enhance your chance to be successful in dive ganking. And again, if youare afraid you are going to die, then you will never improve.
  4. Counter-Gank
    As I have mentioned above, it’s easy to predict their JGL when using Tracker’s Knife. This may not work so well in lower tiers. I feel like the only ganking timing they see is when the lines are pulled all the way to our tower. But anyway, let’s suppose that I warded their top and don’t see their JGL. Where would you see next? If you see that our bot is pushing while our mid is just freezing his lane, then I can guarantee that their JGL is heading bot. This is your time to alert your teammates and go counter-gank. It’s easy, but not a lot of people think about it during the game.
3.    Laning is Easy. ‘I want to push my lane’ (for Top/Mid/AD/Sup)
Many advantages exist from pushing a lane. Enemy’s may lose CS or we can lure them into unfavorable deal exchange and etc.
Possibility of counter-gank from their JGL may be a threat, but in fact It is very important to lure him. Having their JGL come will free other lanes from potential ganking and not only can I predict their JGL with wards, but also able to set up kills with our JGL by countering their counter-gank (When roaming, make sure you push our lane).
So, how to pull off this play?
  1. Use Control ward and Warding totem actively
  2. When the lane is pushed to their tower, reset the wave and control the lane tension
    (Information on how to reset Lane: https://www.reddit.com/r/summonerschool/comments/5bn628/a_basic_guide_to_wave_manipulation/)
  3. After step ‘b’, check which lanes are good to gank from their JGL’s perspective. If that happens to be your lane: 1) Fall back if our JGL isn’t near or 2) Ask for a counter-gank.
    You may continue to push the lane if their JGL doesn’t seem like he’s going to come.
    (To make good predictions on JGL, it is important that you read their JGL’s habit and their psychological elements.This is what makes it hard.)
    When our JGL is not near your lane after a rest, just pull the lane until JGL gets near. Then have him gank your lane or ask for a dive, counter-gank as you push them.
    (But please don’t ask your JGL this everytime. He may never comeback)
    *If our JGL is DUMB, you need to pull the lane and set up a kill for yourself. Though the method of setting up is different for all champs, but the idea of re-setting or pulling the lane, and killing the enemy while he comes for CS is the same. This is something you must learn.
4.    How to Trade Deals and Win
Champs have its counters and their DPS varies a lot on the items and lvling.
To learn these and to know how the trade should occur is FIRST!! To practice controls so that you can execute what you’ve learned is a SECOND step. It will not be easy to win a lane unless you get used to them.
Let’s take a look into the FIRST step,
Situation) tf facing Zed, lvl 6 region, both with the starting item. Assuming both of them hits every skill, Zed can overwhelm tf without a doubt. Then the only way the tf could win is to hit every shot while kiting every single skill Zed throws (since they are non-targets – Q, WQ, WE).
If tf was facing Pantheon, Pant doesn’t even have to dodge. He will just win. As soon as Pant shortens the distance, he can deal severe dmg to TF which makes Pant a counter pick of TF.
What is written above is a simple fact you may already know, but I’m saying that you should have at leasta an idea of what needs to be done between u and the enemy’s champ.
Let’s take a look into the SECOND step,
The conclusion to winning is that tf must stay within the distance of Zed and hit his skills while trying to dodge everys kill Zed throws. This is a simple fact. In order to do this, tf needs to effectively kite, read Zed’s movement pattern (player’s habit), and lure Zed to use up his skills. Then as soon as his skills are in CD, that is your moment to trade deals.
This is a simple equation. Thus, it is really about being able to execute the ones you already know and applying them. To win or not depends on whether you can follow the rules or not.
So, either you do an experiment or watch youtube, it doesn’t matter. Learn to draw a big picture on how to engage in a fight and when to trade. That’s the FIRST step. The SECOND step is to improve your mechanics. It would definitely be an advantage to have fast reflexes, but anywhere below diamond, it really doesn’t make a difference. Slow reflexes necessarily don’t mean that you have bad controls. It’s just that you don’t know how to move effectively. This is hard to explain… and it would be better to get lessons but… for now…this youtube can be an alternate choice (Sorry this one I cant translate)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFIpUzNmn_w&feature=youtu.be
It’s saying that you should move in certain pattern so that it makes easier for the enemy to hit you with their skills. When you move up and down, you know that the enemy is going to land shots based on the prediction of your movement pattern. But! You can also predict that he’s going to use his skills. So, watch his motion and dodge them accordingly. You need to practice this a lot!
5.    How to SNOWBALL (Post-laningphase)
What snowballing can do:
  1. Upset the losing game
  2. Bring the game to an end
  3. Increase global gold differences
  4. Create favorable environment for future TF
    It is not wise to engage in a risk-taking TF. And I know some of you would just jump-in, thinking that you can dominate entire team on your own. Always, think that your teammates aren’t ready for TF most of the time. The most important factor that contributes to the victory depends on how much trouble you gave itto their potential ‘snowball’ champion during laning phase. Repetitive ganking, roaming, and luring will pressure and possibly limit his access to kills. This does not mean that you have to kill him, it’s to bind him. He will then be forced to roam to get kills and that is when you lure him in for kills.
    The fastest way to snowball after the laning phase is by luring. In fact, there is only one simple point to this and you can apply them throughout the game. That is:
    “Predict their movement route”
    Indeed, it sounds so simple and duh~, but it is rare to find people who play with that in mind.
    For example, let’s say their ADC is in mid and our big bot wave is heading towards their tower. It’s not hard to think that either their ADC or someone is going to go for it. Pretty predictable scenario. Then, I can possibly set up an ambush near bot with our team and geta kill (this may be situational).
    This is easy to say, but how many people do you see in a game who actually puts into an action. Those of you that are confident in laning but can’t seem to run the game are the people who gets confused with what to do and when to go for certain objectives. Communicate with your team to set up an object and try to take advantages from taking tower, dragon, baron, warding, and etc. Always try to outnumber in the course of taking those advantages. This will help your team to snowball.
Big waves and objects (Blue, Red, Dragon, Baron, Tower and etc) can act as a source for you to predict enemies’ movement route. Use well!!
  1. Feedback
    It is definitely important to receive a feedback from people about your plays, but who would do it? I usually have a guideline or a checklist for students, but this may not work for everyone reading this post so…
    Then one day I found this website http://your.gg ß It provides a statistically calculated value of how much you’ve contributed to agame. It seems very objective and could be also used as an indicator of your actual LOL competence (Android App: ggtics)
    GGscore is a numerical representation of how much you have contributed to the win. This value is determined by mathematical constants, which differs by player’s position and how successfully a player carried out his roles towards winning the game; simply, the five categories you see above has different constants per position ß It’s obvious that MID and SUP cannot have same constant for dmg dealt per game, because SUP is not meant to deliver as much dmg as the dealers. It’s not their job.
    Personally, what impressed me was that they factored in a time variable. For example:
  1. A person that screwed up early game but did well towards the end
  2. A person that did well early game but ended up feeding toward the end
If you compare the two, you may feel like ‘b’ accomplished a lot more, but in fact, a player ‘a’ did much more contribution to winning. So, he would have higher gg than someone who does well in early game.
The website can catch little things like this to determine whether a player did his job or not. The statistical weighing function is factored into a formula so that a kill in 5 min vs. 40 min into the game receives different scores for analyzation. Thus, the score result tells you how much contribution you made overall throughout the game.
Furthermore, different champions have different variables. For example, if you feel like you did amazing with Udyr and about the same as Jarvan, then Jarvan is more than likely to receive a higher score. That is because Jarvan has AOE skills that contributes to the team in large extent while Udyr is just a gangster who can beat only one champ at atime.
Search your ID and scroll down to find “Recent Match” à “Detail”
As you can see from the picture above, Faker managed to pull off 90% win-expectancy (win-capable). What this means is that if Faker can play other games like how he had performed above, then he will win 90% of the time, whereas, 7895123 will have to wrap his stuff up and walk down the ladder.
Anyway, little tips on using the statistics:
  1. Be honest and don’t count the games you got carried
  2. On the games you think you did good (no free ride, above 50% win-expectancy), visit http://your.gg and then click ‘Analyze’
  3. Click and open the link above
    Given that you were able to apply the tips mentioned in this reddit….
    Check how much contribution is made in each category before 20 min (gank and roaming phase) and try to maintain a positive vibe if you did good!!
    If you have low kill contribution as a dealer, then you should check section ‘D’ of this reddit and figure out what’s wrong with it as far as ganking, roaming, and engaging fights. Making efforts to see those mistakes will lead you forward!!
  4. When you happen to receive 70% win-expectancy with repetitive effort to improve, then get that momentum going. Receiving high winrate in consecutive games will optimize your MMR gains. Also, try to give feedback to yourself on how you managed to pull off 70% rate (Image-training). **When MMR is optimized, you could get double promotion
  5. If win rate is less than 50%, you need to work on your laning. Read section ‘D’ of the reddit and continue from there. Probably need working on your kiting skills and understanding the characteristics of the champ your facing.
  6. Try betting against your friends who trash talks all the time and see who get higher Winrate. Have him order pizza for you or something.
