Group B

Game 1: Dignitas (blue) vs. CLG.EU (red) Each team showed respect for each team's revered AP Mid players with DiG first-banning Anivia and CLG first-banning Katarina. DiG started the game by forcing lane swaps, having d scarra's Gragas face off against CLG yellowpete's Kog'Maw in bottom lane while having d imaqtpie facing CLG Froggen's Orianna and CLG Krepo's Sona in middle lane. d IWillDominate's Shyvanna was accompanied by d Patoy's Taric, as DiG showed the potential of a roaming gank comp with two exhausts and a stun in Shyvanna and Taric. CLG repelled this strategy rather effectively, decisively outfarming DiG with ease. DiG's lane swapping did not pay off any dividends, with CLG Froggen outfarming d scarra by well over 100 minions at just the 20 minute mark. CLG Wickd's Irelia had his way against d crumbzz's Darius, repeatedly sending d crumbzz back to base to heal. This game looked much closer on paper throughout the game than it really was. CLG just stalled the game until they had the absolute advantage, although they could have possibly ended the game much earlier. CLG breezed through their first game with ease, completely dominating each of their lanes on their way to a decisive victory.

TL;DR CLG.EU (1-0) defeats Dignitas (0-1) in convincing fashion despite Dignitas' lane swap and roaming support comp.



Game 2: NaJin.Sword (blue) vs. Saigon Jokers (red) SAJ opened the game with one of the oldest tricks in the book: Camp bot lane brush and wait for your opponents to face check. Their strategy paid off, as SAJ secured first blood. However, SAJ QTV's Irelia, who joined in on the first blood in bot lane, had to recall back to base and opted to walk back to top lane instead of teleporting back. NaJin.Sword MaKNooN, regarded by many as the best top laner in the world, just dominated SAJ QTV in lane with his Jayce, by first killing QTV's Irelia in lane in 1v1, then roaming around the map and securing kills all around the map for NaJin.Sword. MaKNooN really showed the world why people refer to his team as M5 (MaKNooN Five). His aggressive playstyle spilled over to his teammates and he dominated this game to a 23 minute victory. Most notable was his skill-leveling of Jayce, opting to forego the leveling of W and R to max out his E and Q first. This resulted in a high-burst damage output that caught the Saigon Jokers by surprise. NaJin.Sword dominated this one after the first couple of minutes and it was not even close.

TL;DR NaJin.Sword (1-0) wipes the floor with Saigon Jokers (0-1) in a 23 minute game, with MaKNooN wrecking everything in sight with his superb Jayce play.


게임2 : 나진소드 블루 : 사이공조커스 레드

사이공조커스가 졸 오래된 트릭으로 겜을 시작했음.  봇라인 부쉬에 숨어 페이스체크하길 기다리는거..

그 전략은 성공했고 퍼블을 따냈음.  

그런데, 사이공조커스 QTV의 이렐리아가 봇에서 퍼블따낸거까진 좋았는데 

얼렁 탑으로 텔레포트를 안타고 귀환타서 탑라인까지 털레털레 걸어간거임..  

세계 최고 탑라이너인 막눈의 제이스가 QTV 이렐을 압도했고 킬도 따내버렸지.  

그리곤 로밍다니면서 킬따내고 온맵을 휘저어버린거야.  나진소드가 왜 M5 막눈파이브로 불리는지 전세계에 보여줬어.  공격적인 막눈스타일이 팀원들한테까지 번지면서 23분만에 승리를 결정지었지.

가장 주목할 점은 막눈이 스킬찍는 순서인데 W R전에 E Q를 선마해서 사이공조커스애들이 식겁할만한 초강력 뎀지를 날리는 거야.  나진소드가 압도해서 끝장내버렷음.


요약(?) : 나진소드가 사이공조커스를 23분겜으로 박살냄. 막눈이 슈퍼울트라 제이스플레이를 보여주며 파괴함.




Game 3: CLG.EU (blue) vs. NaJin.Sword (red) After NaJin.Sword MaKNooN's seemingly carrying his team to victory in their match against SAJ, his teammates really stepped up their games by dominating their lanes. NaJin.Sword Cain's Sona and NaJin.Sword PraY's Ezreal constantly preyed on CLG Krepo's Lulu time and time again. MaKNooN continued his dominance, this time with Nidalee, staying over double CLG Wickd's Malphite in farm throughout the entire game and getting his lanes fed by ganking with teleport. NaJin.Sword really shut down CLG, thoroughly dominating teamfights and even winning a 4v5 fight in bot lane while NaJin.Sword PraY's Ezreal split push top lane. If numbers show NaJin.Sword's dominance was, they finished the game ahead by over 20K gold -- double the commonly used benchmark of a 10K gold lead as a "sure win."

TL;DR NaJin.Sword (2-0) stomps CLG.EU (1-1) to the surprise of many fans, exacting revenge from their loss against CLG.EU in the Azubu Championships.


게임 3: 씨엘지이유 블루 : 나진소드 레드

막눈이 사이공조커스와의 게임에서 캐리하는걸 보여준 이후로 다른 선수들도 라인전에서 점점 좋아지기 시작했어.  카인의 소나와 프레이의 이즈리얼은 크레포 룰루를 계속 (킬을) 따냈지.  막눈은 계속 우월하다는걸 보여줬는데 이번엔 니달리였어. 윅드의 말파에게 겜내내 두배차이 CS 를 유지하면서 탑라인을 텔포 갱킹으로 씹어먹었지. 나진소드가 철저하게 한타에서 씨엘지를 압도했고 심지어 프레이가 탑라인 미는동안 봇에서 일어난 4:5 한타까지 이겨버렸지.  끝날때 2만골 차이났다는게 얼마나 나진소드가 잘했는지 보여주는거지.. 보통 만골차이면 무조건 이긴다고들 하니까..

요약 : 나진소드가 많은 팬들이 놀랄 정도로 씨엘지이유를 짓밟어버렸어. 지난 아주부챔피언쉽에서 패배도 되갚아주면서 말이지.




Game 4: Dignitas (blue) vs. Saigon Jokers (red) This game started off with several lane swaps. DiG sent d crumbzz's Shen bot lane against SAJ NIXWATER's Karthus and d imaqtpie's Corki with d Patoy's Nunu top lane to shut down SAJ QTV's Jayce. The crowd was pleased with d scarra's Katarina pick, and SAJ responded by sending SAJ Archie's Ezreal and SAJ Junie's Leona mid. This proved to be an excellent maneuver as SAJ really shut down scarra with excellent zoning and well-coordinated ganks with the help of SAJ Violet's Malphite. SAJ outplayed DiG from start to finish, winning every lane and and winning every team fight. The real story here was SAJ completely shutting down d scarra's Katarina and SAJ's exceptional teamwork. SAJ Archie played another really strong game as Ezreal, kiting effectively and pulling off a quadrakill in the final teamfight to put some icing on the cake. As a result of DiG's second loss and SAJ's win, NaJin.Sword became the first team in Group B to advance to the quarterfinals, and DiG was eliminated from the World Championships.

TL;DR Saigon Jokers (1-1) defeats Dignitas (0-2) to eliminate Dignitas from the World Championships.




Game 5: Saigon Jokers (blue) vs. CLG.EU (red) This game was a do-or-die game for both teams since Dignitas was eliminated and NaJin.Sword advancing due to the result of Game 4. The bottom line: the winner of this game would advance to the quarterfinals (winner would be 2-1, loser would be 1-2; even if NaJin.Sword lost their final match against DiG, they would end up 2-1 and DiG would be 1-2). This game was by far the most difficult to watch-- it was a terribly one-sided game, and combined with CLG's trademark pick-late-game-champs-and-drag-out-games-even-when-we-have-the-lead made for an unbearably uneventful game to watch. CLG Snoopeh's Maokai gave CLG Wickd's Irelia first blood, effectively snowballing top lane. SAJ QTV's Jayce struggled mightily all game after giving up first blood, with Wicked completely dominating the lane matchup. SAJ tried to salvage the situation by sending SAJ Violet's Shen top to babysit Jayce, but CLG Wickd's Irelia came out on top even in the 1v2 teamfights with some assistance from CLG Froggen's Karthus Ults. While CLG Wickd snowballed his advantage in top, the rest of CLG farmed safely and secured objectives until they finally decided to end it.

TL;DR CLG.EU (2-1) becomes the first non-Asian team in the Playoffs to advance to the quarterfinals by knocking out Saigon Jokers (1-2) from the World Championships in a really boring game.



Game 6: NaJin.Sword (blue) vs. Dignitas (red) This game was meaningless for the playoff picture as NaJin.Sword already qualified and Dignitas was already eliminated, so it was more for DiG to save face and maintain their sense of pride after suffering two crushing defeats in the group stage. Dignitas put out their best performance of the Playoffs and provided fiercer competition than any other NaJin.Sword opponent. MaKNooN continued to absolutely crush his lane, this time using his trademark Shen. DiG really used some nifty plays to bait the overly aggressive NaJin.Sword players to steal some nice kills and even taking Baron despite playing from a huge deficit for most of the match. Overall, NaJin.Sword really dictated every aspect of the game, but with their sloppy play at times really made spectators wonder if it was possible to throw a 15K gold lead. Dignitas admirably exited the Playoffs with all they had on the table, but NaJin.Sword proved to be too strong.

TL;DR NaJin.Sword (3-0) defeats Dignitas (0-3) as both Korean teams sweep group play


게임6: 나진소드 블루 : 디그니타스 레드

이겜은 의미가 없었던게 나진소드는 이미 8강진출 확정했고 디그니타스는 떨어진게 확정되버렸거든..

그래서 디그니타스한테는 앞 2번의 패배이후에 체면치례겸 자존심도 살리기 위한 경기였어. 

디그니타스는 플옵경기중 베스트 움직임을 보여줬고 나진소드에게 격렬하게 대들었지.

막눈은 여전히 탑라인을 개박살냈고 이번엔 트레이드마크인 쉔이었어. 

디그니타스는 공격적인 나진소드한테 좋은 낚시성 플레이로 몇킬을 따냈고 심저어 바론까지 가져가긴 했어.

나진소드가 전체적으로 게임을 지배하긴 했지만 몇몇 엉성한 플레이로 만오천골드리드가 뒤집힐지도 모른다는 생각이 들게끔 했지.  디그나타스는 훌륭하게 플옵을 마쳤지만 나진소드가 졸라 강하다는 걸 증명했지.


요약:  나진소드가 디그니타스를 집에 보냄.  두 한국팀이 조예선을 휩쓸었음.



Here are some thoughts/observations I had from watching all of the Group B matches:

-It really somewhat of a relief as an e-Sports fan that all of the "favorites" to advance, did advance. There was some skepticism about the single game format, which was somewhat quelled due to the round robin format. However, with all the favorites advancing, there was no room for potential drama/whining.

-The whole "Blue side is OP!" theory proved untrue. The better team won each game, and that held true even when the better team was on the red side.

-블루팀이 OP 라는 얘기는 틀렸어. 더 나은 팀이 이겼고 레드팀이었어도 이겼었지.


-Top lane dominance was the story of Day 1. Azubu Frost Shy's play was dominant in Group A, and NaJin.Sword MaKNooN's play was dominant in Group B. None of the other lanes or players really stood out nearly as much as these two players did.

- 첫 날의 얘기는 탑라인이야. A조에선 얼주부 샤이가 우월했고 B조에선 막눈이 그랬지.  다른 어떤 라이너들도 이 둘만큼 하지는 못했어


-There was really a wider variety of champions used than I had expected. Morgana was used just once, and we did not see Blitzcrank at all until the final game of the day. Meanwhile, we saw Miss Fortune, Swain, Jarvan, and Lee Sin. Lux was used quite frequently as well, although she has been seen more often in competitive play compared to the aforementioned four champions.

- 내가 기대했던거 보다 훨씬 다양한 챔프들이 보였어. 모르가나는 딱 한번 쓰였고 블리츠크랭크는 젤 마지막 게임에서만 나왔지.  미스포츈, 스웨인, 자르반, 리신등이 나왔지. 럭스도 자주 쓰이긴 했지만 앞에 얘기한 넷보단 이전대회에서도 많이 보였었어.


-I think the biggest surprise in Day 1 was NaJin.Sword's dominance. Although many people picked NaJin.Sword to be a favorite to advance to the quarterfinals, I don't think many expected NaJin.Sword to come out and crush all their competition, even against CLG.EU. However, we have yet to see how they handle high-pressure situations where they are forced to come back from behind. If you closely follow the e-Sports teams, you know that Azubu Frost, TSM, or CLG.EU routinely come back from really horrible starts and are able to recover and win the game. With NaJin.Sword, they either stomped their matches or played to hold on a considerable lead. With NaJin.Sword showing that they will take huge risks even though they have a big lead and Dignitas revealing that opponents could possibly exploit this character trait in NaJin.Sword, it makes one wonder if NaJin.Sword could close out games against stronger opponents.

- 첫날 가장 놀란 건 압도적인 나진소드야. 많은 애들이 나진소드의 8강진출을 예상하긴 했지만, 난 소드가 CLGEU까지 포함해서 모든 게임을 이길거라고 예상한 사람은 별로 없었을거라고 봐.. 근데, 소드가 아주 힘든 상황을 극복해내는 걸 아직 보진 못했거든. 이스포츠팀들에 대해 잘 안다면 얼주부나 TSM, CLG EU 등이 시작은 끔찍했더라도 그걸 극복하고 승리하는걸 봤을거야.

나진소드는 압도하는 게임나 리드를 잘 유지하는 게임만 있었거든. 디그니타스와의 경기에선 크게 앞서나가고 있었어도 큰 약점이 있다는 걸 보여줬어. 디그니타스가 소드의 성향을 잘 활용해서 말이지. 그런 점 때문에 만약 소드가 더 강한 상대를 만났을때 게임을 잘 마무리할 수 있을지 의문이야.


-If I had to choose an All-Group B Team, I'd probably pick: NaJin.Sword MaKNooN (Top), NaJin.Sword watch (Jungle), CLG Froggen (AP), SAJ Archie (AD), and NaJin.Sword Cain (Support).

- B조 올스타를 뽑아볼께.  탑 막눈, 정글 왓치, 미드 프로겐, 원딜 Archie (사이공), 서폿 카인


-CLG.EU's Froggen set the new world record for fastest time to 300 minion kills at 23 minutes and 10 seconds. Very impressive record set by one of the most technically sound players in the world.

- 프로겐은 23분 10초에 300 cs라는 세계 신기록을 세웠어. 세계에서 가장 테크니컬한 선수에 의한 매우 인상적인 기록이지.


-With CLG.EU drawing World Elite and NaJin.Sword drawing Taipei Assassins, each Group B quarterfinalist drew a weaker matchup than the Group A quarterfinalists. Hopefully, once the pro scene further develops, we could have a more systematic way to determine seedings rather than leave it up to chance (Frost losing the lottery to get the first round bye).

- CLG EU는 월드엘리트하고 붙고 나진소드는 타이페이어쌔신과 붙어. 8강 B조가 A조보다 약한 대진 같네.

좀더 프로 대회가 발전하려면 더 나은 시드짜는법이 나와야 할 거 같네.. 프로스트가 기회를 잃어버린 방식보단 말이지.


-This probably doesn't mean much, but I found it interesting that both teams that went 0-3 (SK and DiG) have AP Mids as their trademark, face of the franchise players while not having any other really topnotch elite players in their other roles.

- 큰 의미가 있는거 같진 않은데 3패 팀들(SK  DIG)의 공통점을 발견했어. 미드플레이어가 팀의 핵심이자 얼굴마담이야.. 대신 다른라인엔  월클급 선수가 없네..
